Ultrasound of the mammary glands in women is a safe, accessible and highly informative method of breast examination, used both for preventive examination and for the purpose of identifying various mammary gland diseases in the presence of relevant complaints.
The study allows us to assess the size, structure of tissues (predominance of glandular or fatty components), the presence of pathological formations in the mammary gland (cysts, tumors) or in the skin in the chest area.

A breast ultrasound does not require any special preparation. For a more objective assessment of the breast condition (to detect signs of mastopathy), it is recommended to perform the examination 4-8 days after the onset of menstruation. However, if you are concerned about pain or the presence of palpable masses in the breast tissue or axillary areas, the ultrasound can be performed on any day of the cycle without reducing the diagnostic value of this examination. If a woman is taking hormonal contraceptives or is already menopausal, the timing of the procedure is also irrelevant.

It is recommended that women over 18 years of age undergo a mammary gland ultrasound once a year.

Indications for breast ultrasound

• The presence of any complaints from the breast (pain, engorgement, discomfort, discharge from the nipples).
• Visible changes in the shape, size, contours, and skin of the breast that were not observed previously.
• Diagnosis of breast condition in pregnant women, during breastfeeding, and when planning pregnancy.
• Diagnosis of cysts, tumors and any other benign or malignant neoplasms that were detected independently, during a doctor's examination or during other studies (chest X-ray, mammography).
• Assessment of the condition of the breast after injury or during an inflammatory process (mastitis).
• Enlarged lymph nodes (axillary, supraclavicular and subclavian).
• Evaluation of the condition of silicone prostheses after breast augmentation surgery.
• Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment of dyshormonal diseases of the mammary glands (diffuse forms of mastopathy).
