Holter ECG monitoring (24-hour ECG monitoring, Holter ECG) is a method of electrophysiological instrumental diagnostics, which consists of long-term recording of an ECG in conditions of the patient’s daily activity, followed by analysis of the resulting recording.
Indications for Holter monitoring are the following situations:
- Violation of the rhythm and conductivity of the heart.
- Early detection of myocardial ischemia - in men over 35 years of age and women over 40 years of age is performed once a year, in cardiac patients - once every six months.
- Monitoring antiarrhythmic therapy.
- Monitoring anti-ischemic therapy (before treatment and three weeks after it).
- For concomitant syndromes and conditions (thyroid disease, thyrotoxicosis; high cholesterol).
- For expectant mothers at any stage (once).
- In athletes to identify fatal rhythm disturbances.
